
(Beijing, February 1) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open concluded its second-day races at the National Aquatics Center this evening with World Championships winner Qi Hui of China finishing in 2:27.21 for the second berth in the women's 200m breaststroke preliminaries.
In the women's 50m freestyle heats, German Daniela Geotz clocked 25.54 to be the first, ahead of China's Xu Yanwei and another German swimmer Britta Steffen, who had won the 100m freestyle final this morning.
Japanese pair of Suenaga Yuta and Tateishi Ryo dominated the men's 100m breaststroke heats later, finishing in 1:01.66 and 1:01.81 respectively. Hungary's veteran Daniel Gyurta stood fourth with a time of 1:03.15 and Xue Ruipeng of host China came in fifth with 1:03.25.
The women's 200m breaststroke witnessed a dramatic racing between Korean Jung Seul Ki and China's Qi Hui as the former touched the wall first in 2:25.85 and Qi second, in a time of 2:27.11, which precedes the Olympic Qualification A time of 2:28.21. Qi's teammate Sun Ye also made to the final.
China got reign in the men's 400m freestyle heats as Sun Yang, Zhang Lin and Xin Tong ranked the first three while Pawel Korzeniowski of Poland gained his final ticket too.
In the women's 200m freestyle heats, Zhu Qianwei of China finished 2:00.45 to top the list. The Chinese together with her entering the final are: Zheng Yunyun, Li Mo, Zhu Wenrui and Zhu Yingwen. German Annika Lurz stood second after the heats.
In the last preliminary race tonight, Jung Ji Yeon of Korea clocked 8:55.19 to become the first in the slow heat of the women's 800m freestyle.
