(Beijing, February 2) China's veteran Qi Hui, who had qualified for the women's 200m breaststroke of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open, finished in 1:08.22 to make the 100m breast final at the National Aquatics Center today.
With her 200m result excelling the Olympic Qualification A time, Qi's 100m result also precedes the Olympic QA time of 1:09.01.
Regardless of topping the 100m heats, Qi said that her result could have been better if she had not miscalculated the race time.
"I took it as 7:15 but the race started a quarter later. It really affects one's physical efficiency when his excitement stage lasts rather long." Qi explained, adding that the similar situation would not happen in the Olympic Games as a detailed racing schedule would be offered during the Games.
"I came to compete in this tournament mainly for reaching the QA for the Olympics, but I still want to bring out my best in tomorrow's 100m final," said Qi, who finished eighth in the 200m final.
Commenting on the performance of Korean Jung Seul Ki, who finished second with a time of 1:09.48, Qi noted that "The Koreans improved very fast recently and they are pretty strong rivals in Asia, which could bestir the Chinese to be more competitive."
