(Beijing, February 4) In the men's 50m freestyle final of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Swimming China Open held this morning, China's Huang Shaohua finished sixth with a time of 23.50, while Swedish veteran Stefan Nystrand took the title in 22.39. After the race, Huang heartily praised his foreign opponents, saying "Them all did well."

Huang's result in yesterday's heats was 23.47, and he attributed his below-par performance today to his ill adapatability to competing in the morning and also to the new starting platform. "I knew it was not good the moment I plunged into the water, and my speed has also been a problem. I think I have to intensify my training in speed in the days to come," he was quoted as saying.

Among the top five finishers in today's men's 50m freestyle final three came from Sweden, one from Brazil and one from Romania. Commenting on their performances, Huang admitted that they were all very good.

So far Huang has finished his races at this open tournament. "I have come to have a feel of the venue and find out where to improve," he said, "and I'll redouble my efforts to make some improvement as soon as possible."
